The
CPI (M) leader Tara Sundas today alleged that that State government has been
partial by providing double ration only to the APL families sidelining the BPL
in the Hills. Talking to the reporters he informed that he has sent a
memorandum to the chief secretary, State Food Ministry, Nur-Ul Haq and to the
director concerning the BPLs plea on the deprivation of the benefits.
Sundas
also said that the victims of Hills, Jangalmahal, Sunderban and to that of the
Aila were earlier announced to be provided with double ration, for which the
State had demanded the added 17 lacs metric tones of rice to the Centre. The
demands of the State government had clearly written the Hills instead of the
APL and the BPL but has been alienated today said Sundas. “The BPL families in
the Hills have been discriminated” said Sundas. The State food minister had
also announced 30, 000 metric tons of rations as reserve, but on the other hand
the double ration has been stopped since March 31. And starting this month when
the trend was started it was only for the APLs said Sundas. The government has
been eying on the profits by distributing double rations only to the APLs which
has affected the BPL very severely. Kalimpong has the total of 95, 006 BPL
families, where 22304 got in the year 2004 but till date they have been
deprived of the benefits. The State government and the department must
subordinate the happening and as per the rules quoted by the Centre, double
ration has to be made available to the BPL families claimed Sundas.
