KALIMPONG, June 25:

Two of the main vanguards of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) General Secretary, Roshan Giri and Spokesperson, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri not being chosen by the Morcha Chief, Bimal Gurung in his 5 member ‘handpicked’ team who left for New Delhi today to meet the Central and the State Government, has yet again stir a buzz in the hills. Those who keeping a close check on what the Morcha’s next step will be, are now anxious on what the Morcha Chief is trying to do by not selecting its two aces.
When asked about this to the Spokesperson cum Kalimpong MLA, Dr Chettri, he stated that there are many efficient and intellectual politicians in the Morcha who are capable of putting forward the issues in a proper way. Also mentioning that before during the imperative talks between the GJM and the State or the Central Government, they (Giri and Dr Chettri) used to lead the team instead of the Morcha Chief, he added that now since Gurung himself is leading the faction, there is no need for them to go. “Our presence does not matter much right now”, he stated. Further, when asked about the GJM’s earlier declaration of burning the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) documents and the resignations to be put forward by the MLAs and Municipality Chairpersons, Dr Chettri clarified that the forthcoming talks between the GJM, State and the Central Government shall decide whether the Morcha’s declaration will be carried forward or not.
Likewise he said that the State Government is in favour of conducting the GTA elections in the hills as soon as possible. 90% of the politicians of Terai- Dooars are also in favour of the said elections because until and unless Darjeeling hills become powerful, only then there shall be successful programmes in Terai- Dooars, he asserted. But on the other hand the Dooars people are also living in a fear, doubting that whether the GJM too shall betray them like Subash Ghising earlier.
Dr Chettri also notified that on December 21, 2009 the State Government had approached them with an agreement but the GJM did not favour it because Terai- Dooars was not included in it. The 11 times tripartite meetings was held because Terai- Dooars was not being included.
Lastly, MLA Dr Chettri mentioning about the recent death of the hill entrant, Suresh Bhujel who had passed away due to unbearable heat during his physical endurance test for Kolkata Police Constable held at Kolkata, he said that in one hand the State Government is working towards facilitating the hills, but in other hand there is not even one admission centre in the hills for the aspiring Police candidates. “If any day we go to the Rajya Sabha, then we will definitely put forward this incident and also will demand for providing employment to one of the family members of the deceased”, he assured.
