‘Independent’ Subba proves to be a tough competition for ‘GJM selected’ Dewan 1st ever GTA elections held successfully, definite win for the GJM

July 29:
The
1st ever Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) elections in
Kalimpong had 74.04 voting percentage. The elections conducted at 9
Constituencies of Kalimpong went peacefully throughout. The Election Officer
also the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO), LN Sherpa informed that the elections
which commenced since 7 in the morning ended at 4 in the evening. A total of 1,
65, 806 voters which included 84, 532 male and 81, 274 female voters cast their
votes under the 22 Kalimpong Constituency. 155 polling stations were set up at
the 9 Constituencies.
The
Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) candidates from 34 Homes- Bhalukhop, 35 Bom-
Durpin, 36 Dungra- Pudung and 39 Rangpo- Mungsong has already received the
winning certificates from the SDO after their uncontested wins. The votes will
be counted on August 20, 2012 at the Primary section of SUMI.
It
has been reported that the GJM candidate, Kalyan Dewan from the 41 no Nimbong-
Gitabling Constituency shall have a tough time winning against the independent
candidate, Sanchabir Subba.
