Traffic Police, Drivers Union and Van Associations come together to curb traffic hassle

Keeping in mind the ever increasing traffic hassles, the Kalimpong Traffic Department organized an imperative meeting with the representatives of the Drivers Union and the town’s 26 Maruti Van Associations, at Jagannath Dharmashala. The 3-4 hours long meeting discussed, deliberated and passed various unanimous decisions.
It was decided that the drivers shall use the road above Tirpai after coming through Dinubotey till Tirpai Fatak. Only emergency cases vehicle will be let to ferry through Aadarsh Nursing Home. The road from Damber Chowk till Dinubotey will be kept one way. The gas cylinder vehicles will not be allowed to travel between during school hours.
The Drivers Union President, Tshering Dorjee Bhutia said that fixed timings to unload the goods from heavy load vehicles will be allotted.  Likewise, the vehicles coming from Pala and Relli will not be allowed to use the Relli Road. These vehicles now need to travel via 12th Mile. The water supply vehicles should abide by the traffic rules. He also informed that action against vehicles which are parked beside the roadside as it creates traffic issues.
Various issues pertaining to peak traffic hours i.e. during school hours was also raised. The issue of vehicle parking in front of Fire Brigade near Rockvale Academy was also brought under light
