Police vehicle plunges into Teesta, 3 feared to be drowned




Kalimpong, September 30: Three persons are feared to be drowned in the River Teesta as a Bolero vehicle bearing no WB 4557, plunged into Teesta, 100ft below the road level. The incident occurred in between 9:30- 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night at Gail Khola, NH31A when the commuters were travelling towards Rambi.
It has been informed that the fateful vehicle belonged to Rambi Thana and the missing persons are identified as, Shiv Sagar Chettri, Rambi Thana In-charge,  Soumen Banerjee, Administrative Supervisor of  NHPC Ltd and Pritam Chettri, driver.
After the incident came into notice around 11 p.m. yesterday, all the Police forces under Kalimpong Sub Division, reached the spot and initiated the search operation. However, nothing much could be done in the darkness and even the rainfall hampered the search work. Thus, the Police along with the Fire Department, Teesta River Rafting Team and the locals conducted the search operation early today morning. But until now, neither the bodies have been found nor the vehicle. Police star badge, Rs 1200/- and a spectacle case, were all they could recover from the spot. The reason of the accident is not yet determined, the case is under investigation and the search operation is on full swing.
