Shiv Sagar Chettri’s tragic end
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, September 30:
A
happy go lucky person is what the locals of Rambi remember Shiv Sagar
Chettri as. His colleagues remember him as a person who always performed
his duty well and a brave Police officer.
Chettri,
the In-charge of Rambi Thana is one of the individuals feared to be
drowned in the River Teesta in saturday night road mishap.
A
resident of Mangal Dara, Chettri joined the Police Department in 1988
as a Constable. He got promoted to the post of SI in 1997. After serving
the Jalpaiguri Thana he got posted to various areas under Darjeeling
District. It was only last year that he was posted to Kalimpong Thana as
its SI. Further, he also held the post of Kalimpong Traffic OC, early
this year. On May 21, 2012 he was made the Rambi Thana In-charge.
Within
a short span of time he was able to hold a place in the hearts of the
people of Rambi through his helpful and selfless behavior. Now when
there is no news of him after the incident, the Police and the people,
though with fear in their minds are with a hope that Chettri will be
found safe.
Chettri is now survived by his wife, 2 children and his mother.
Also all the political parties of the hills, organizations and the local
populace have expressed their disbelief and sadness over the incident.
The Kalimpong MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri, GTA Sabhasads Kazim
Tshering Bhutia, Sunil Pradhan and Ramesh Lama also visited the incident
spot today.
