Food suppliers and officers involved in ration swindle - Sundas
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, November 23
The Government of India
has prearranged 50 lacs metric tons of ration to the State government appealing
them to provide double ration for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. There
has been no match of yielding rations to the families in the three subdivisions
of the Hills as the amount of the commodities varies.
The Above Poverty Line
(APL) families in Darjeeling has been receiving 800 gms of rice, 700 gms of
wheat, 1 kilo of atta, 100 gms of sugar. Likewise in Kurseong they are getting
800 gms of rice, 250gms of wheat, 1 kilo atta, 150 gms of sugar and in
Kalimpong 800 gms of rice, 250 gms of wheat, 700 gms of atta and 100 gms of
sugar.
The BPL in Kalimpong
has been receiving 1 kilo of rice, 250 gms of atta, 700 gms of wheat and 100
gms of sugar. In top of that the rations shops has been providing only 500 gms
of rice to the above families. Considering the above parlance Sundas has asked
about the whereabouts of the other commodities which are to be provided to
those families. One of the ration trucks was nabbed by the police at Gorubathan
and the result of the case is still unknown. The government has to take strict
action on those who are behind the scene affirmed Sundas.
