Kalimpong, November 29:

It almost a year since the formation of Kalimpong Municipality, but the town’s main dumping ground issue remains unsolved. When the Municipality Chairman, LB Pariyar was highlighted about the matter by the media today, he said that the issue is not only of the Municipality, rather it concerns the entire Kalimpong residents. The Municipality along with Green Elephant, a German Company is working towards garbage management. One tonne garbage disposal plant is being planned to set up at the Chest Clinic here. Also in the other hand, there is probability of making a garbage dumping ground at Khawas Gaon, Sindebong.
After the plant is set up, gas can be produced through the garbage which can be further used as fuel and energy. The Municipality has mainly targeted the rotten garbage accumulated from hotels and Haat Bazaar. This project worth Rs 1 crore is expected to lessen the garbage issue of the town by 70-80%.
Pariyar also informed that the project file will be soon forwarded to the West Bengal Municipality Department.
Only yesterday, the GTA Executive Chief, Bimal Gurung in his address during a function, had announced of giving funds to the Municipality and had advised them to work properly.
On this context the Municipality Chairman said that they have received 2 crores. The funds will be utilized to construct 2 main roads which come under the Municipality. Also the Multi Complex will be made and the shops opposite to the Novelty premises will be relocated.
