Home Ministry passes draft for Lepcha Development Council
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, November 24:
The final draft for the
formation of Lepcha Development Council, which was sent to the Cabinet Council,
has been passed by the Home Ministry. The above was informed by the Lepcha
Youth Association President, Dorjee T Lepcha today. He also informed that recently
the association representative faction has returned from Kolkata. Now, it will
take 15- 20 days for the draft to come from the Cabinet Council, he said and
hoped that soon the Lepcha Development Council will be formed whose draft has
been prepared as per the demand of the Lepchas. Till now 7 meetings have been
conducted with the Government and the draft for the Council has been discussed,
he notified. “We are satisfied on how the process is going”, expressed Lepcha.
However, the decision
of the Government of teaching Lepcha language in school level since 2012, no
steps has been taken as yet. Commenting on this, Lepcha said that there is no
individual in the Education Board who knows the language and to prepare the
lessons. This is why there has been a delay, he clarified. Nevertheless, two
people have been included in the Education Board to prepare the books/ lessons
and the work is underway. He also hoped that the Lepcha classes will start from
2013.
