| INJURED CHEWANG BHUTIA |
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and activists were
allegedly attacked by Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) activists in
Kalimpong today.
It
was learnt that the TMC Kalimpong unit led by its senior leader,
Chewang Bhutia and Bruno Lepcha, candidates of the TMC during the GTA
Sabha election in 2012 were organizing an indoor meeting in a house in
the gardens of Silver Oaks Hotel at Ringking Pong Road, Kalimpong this
afternoon when all of a sudden at around 1 PM a group of GJMM supporters
swooped down and attacked them ferociously. Immediately,
after the intervention of police the mob dispersed bringing the
situation from spiraling further. In this stir several TMC activists
were injured in which their leader Chewang Bhutia have been reported to
be severely injured on the head and face hit by a wooden beam. They have
been rushed to the Kalimpong Sub Divisional Hospital for treatment.
The
Kalimpong Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs. Songmeet Lepcha
said that during the attack the TMC supporters were holding an indoor
meeting when they were allegedly sieged by the GJMM supporters. She
further added that they had been informed about the imminent clash and
had reached the spot in time to control the skirmish from deteriorating
further. If we had not been informed the incident could have taken a
worse turn. In this incident two TMC leaders Chewang Bhutia and Bruno
Lepcha have been badly injured. Presently Bhutia has been referred to
the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.
The
Police also informed that the TMC have filed a FIR against the GJMM
Youth Wing President Barood Thapa and its Secretary Binay Ghisingh as
well as others. However later four of them has been arrested from damber
chowk .
At
the same time keeping in mind the grave nature of the incident, huge
police personnel have been deployed in Kalimpong Town to monitor the
situation.
The
Kalimpong GJMM leadership has objected to the allegation leveled at them
saying it is baseless and have instead condemned the attack.
