JAN AWAAZ formed in Delhi
Kalimpong,15th Sept
After a series of meetings with likeminded
people in Delhi, a group of concerned Gorkhas from across India formally
announced the formation of JAN AWAAZ with an aim to create a genuine, people
oriented movement.
At a meeting held at International Conference
Centre, YMCA, New Delhi on 14th September,
people from all walks of life and representing various parts of India
deliberated on several issues facing the Indian Gorkha community.
Over the meetings, the members felt that
one of the most serious challenges facing the community was that of a lack of
credible leadership. Despite genuine support from the people, the leaders have
not been able to work towards the fulfilment of people’s aspirations and
instead have been busy with their own personal agendas.
Given such a scenario, the group felt that
it was time for a people’s movement rather than a party based or personality
based movement. The group also felt the need to organise the silent majority of
committed, sincere but largely voiceless people.
The group reiterated that it shall work
towards building a leadership that is Clean, Educated, Capable, and Committed.
JAN AWAAZ now plans to work with likeminded
groups and people across India and make it an All India People’s movement. JAN
AWAAZ will work out its programs and organisational structures in the coming
days.
Sankalp Lama has been given the
responsibility of Convenor for JAN AWAAZ. Other members include Joel Rai,
Munish Tamang, Pappu Pradhan, Guman Limbu, Supreet Pradhan, D K Pradhan, Sonam
Bhutia, Tsering Lepcha, Barun Adhikary and others.
