Traffic snarl hit the streets, crowds rushed in huge numbers to the markets while banks and ATMs saw a long queue on the first day of the two day breather given by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in the hills since Monday. The best efforts of the traffic policemen failed to bring the streets jam free but the most important

boarding schools in the hills welcomed their students back with much fervor. Students from different parts of the town had made a beeline to attend their classes but the school authorities sources said turned them away because the schools would be opened only from September 13. All government offices too remained opened after a month long bandh in the hill on Monday
