Gorkhaland haunt after festival hangover
Kalimpong, Oct 21
The BGP, an a political organization that preferably has members from the literary world, in a bid to take the Gorkhaland demand at the national level has decided to fill the Ramlila Maidan in the National Capital with maximum number of Gorkhas on December 18. Sources said that the motive behind the move is to implicate the much hyped ‘Gorkhaland’ issue in National Politics. The programme has been named as ‘Gorkha Bhela’
meaning assemblage of Gorkhas and more than 300 people has already vowed to participate in the meet. “We appeal to all the Gorkhas in the country to come and participate in the programme. The Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh has been given the responsibility to organize programme,” said P.K.Pradhan, a BGP general secretary in Kalimpong here today.
“Through the programme we also want to know the views of different political national leaders on Gorkhaland. The Gorkhaland agitation so far has been Darjeeling centric and it is time that we take it on at the national level,” he added. With political activities boiling fast in the hills given that the Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee is visiting the hills next week who is hell bent to destabilize the agitation with her undeterred steps recently and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) that is the main force agitating for Gorkhaland at back foot, the BGP’s programme is significant because it was the same body that fought rigorously at the national level to include the Nepali language in the eight schedule of the constitution years ago.
