Lok Sabha fever begins in the Hills
Kalimpong Oct 31:
With the Gorkhaland issue diminishing in the hills each passing day after a massive crackdown from Mamata Bannerjee, the lok Sabha poll fever has started to haunt for itself tofind a place in the politically
acclimatized Darjeeling. The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) may surely be lollipoping with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) at the moment, but it is the Doctorate degree holders and some journalists from within the Gorkha community eyeing for a berth for the seat that currently is occupied by BJP top brass Jaswant Singh who won riding piggyback on the GJM during the last election. Peoples Forum--- a body of Gorkha intellectuals based in New Delhi amusingly has sent list of five candidates minus Dr. Mahendra P.Lama, a former vice chancellor of Sikkim university to Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) – an a political organization and Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) which is a conglomerate of political parties for their selection and approval. The list of names includes Dr. Munish Tamang, a professor, Advocate Arun Acharya, Journalist Joel Rail and Swaraj Thapa and last but not the least Dr. Gokul Sinha, the president of the forum itself. The list of names however sees no Dr. Mahendra P.Lama who has been camping in the hills andset to start his election campaign very soon using the Gorkhaland issue. Forum general secretary Praveen Gurung told that Dr. Lama’s name was not included because it wants a political clearance from Lama. “Lama should make his stance on his political status before we consider his name.He has been using the Gorkhaland issue as his main agenda for polls. What if he looses the election? Such questions should be answered by Lama before we consider his name,” Gurung said over phone.Tags: LOCAL
