Kalimpong, Feb 13th:
To ensure availability of proper government amenities to the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste communities of the hills, the state government has decided to provide caste certificates from the grass roots level. SDO Radhika Aiyer, considering the problems being faced by the SC/ST while applying for their respective certificates, has decided to organise camps in villages to ensure easy access of the facility to all. According her, the two groups should be provided with proper facilities and camps will be organized in several Gram Panchayat areas.
The SDO claimed to have distributed 190 certificates at a camp at Pokrebong GP today under Gorbuthan Block. Aiyer said “the process that usually takes a minimum of seven months was completed within a day. Similar camps will be held at various GP blocks.” Aiyer further appealed to the organizations working for  the welfare of the SC/ST to come forward and contact her office for more details on the camp.
