Delo - Relli passenger ropeway foundation laid.

The GTA chief, Mr. Bimal Gurung laid the foundation stone of a passenger ropeway from Delo to Relli.

A foundation stone laying program was organized by Tourism Dept GTA at the Delo at kalimpong, this afternoon, in which, Mr. Gurung emphasized on tourism and its different aspects.
Addressing the program, the GTA chief, Mr. Gurung said that now it’s the responsibility of the local people is to bring about success to the ropeway project. He also added that through this ropeway, not only the tourists but all the different sectors of people of kalimpong will be benefited. Hence, the local leaders and the people should now think big and accordingly work keeping with a vision.
He further added that He want Relli to be the number one tourist destination in Kalimpong .GTA has also plans to make a new Tourist Village at Relli and will include 10 tourist huts, a swimming pool, health club, restaurant, craft bazaar and an open air theatre. Relli will become a popular destination for national and international tourists. Relli will also get tourists in the winters because of its warm weather. This tourism project will give a boost to the economy of not only Relli but also the surrounding areas.
At the same time, Mr. Gurung also directed the ropeway work to start in 20 days time .
He further informed that the GTA has already made different projects to develop Kalimpong region on different aspects and according a Hospital is going to be inaugurated soon in Leprosy Area .
R.K. Banerjee of Damodar Darjeeling Himalayan Rides who will be constructing the ropeway informed that it will be of 4.3 km length with two main station at Relli and Delo and an intermediate station at Alvert villa. He said that it have will have a speed of 3m/s and will complete 4.3 kilometer length in 24-25 min of times. He asked for the help OF GTA to clear the hindrances which which will come in construction as According to law of Environment Ministry a public hearing have to be conducted where the height of ropeway exceed a altitude of 1000 m as Delo is situated at 1500 m.
Gurung said that the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration appears in a hurry to start work on various pending development projects in the hills ahead of the general elections.
"The Lok Sabha election will be announced soon and the code of conduct will be put in place, which will make it difficult for us to announce any new projects to be undertaken.” added Gurung
Announcing the construction of a Stadium soon in kalimpong he said that We have several projects to start and complete and I want to do this at the earliest because the current GTA's tenure ends in the next three years.
He informed that Rs1 crore for kalimpong municipality to solve the dumping problem.
Meanwhile After Delo Gurung also inaugurated a Model School and 10 bedded Hospital at Kagey, and a sub center at Lingsey kha under kalimpong block 2
