4 Families Homeless in Kalimpong Raze

A devastating fire, which broke out in the Biralukothi area of Kalimpong on Saturday razed a house leaving four families homeless. The fire broke out at 6.30 am due to sort circuit. A warehouse was also destroyed by the fire in the semi-pucca structure. The owner of the house Puran Diyali was sleeping then. As the fire caught the members of the families living in the house escaped immediately. Locals informed the fire brigade which rushed to the spot immediately and controlled the fire within an hour. Some local people complained against the fire brigade for late response.Denying the allegation the fire brigade officer Nirmal Rai said, they reached the spot as soon as got the news. Kalimpong MLA Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri and SDO K. Aiyar reached to the spot and took stock of the situation. Local councilor Kundan Bania arranged shelter for the rehabilitation of the affected families. He also promised to pay Rs 10000 each of the affected family. The family was given 35 kg Rice, 6 blankets, 6 tarpaulins and Rs. 950 as immediate relief from the administration. A family member said he saw the flames coming out from kitchen area but couldn’t prevent the LPG cylinder from exploding which further fueled the fire. Three fire engines and the local water carrying vehicles along with locals tried to control the fire. The family could not take out anything said one of the family members
