Phulpati Celebrated in grand manner at Kalimpong

On the occasion of Phoolpati, residents of kalimpong today took part
in the Shova Yatra, a
procession that officially marks the beginning of the festival. Members
of the Nepali-speaking community emerge into the streets in traditional
attire, playing age-old musical instruments as they make their way into
the market places.The Program which was organised by Gorkha Jan Jagriti
Yuwa Manch and Gorkha Sanskritik Sansthan Kalimpong today saw thousand
of People dancing, Singing, enjoying .A never before Kalimpong was seen
today . After many years of gap so happily the Shova Yatra was taken
out. A part from day program the evening was too fabulous when a evening
extravaganza was organised. The evening chief guest was GTA chief Bimal
Gurung dressed in traditional attire. Gurung who from 2008 started the
lines of organising a month long cultural program all over the hills
have seen massive uplifment of the Gorkha Tradition.The evening witness a
total of 107 madal
artist performing madal vadan, 107 dancers performing the
Maruni Dance and 107 Kukuri Dance along with street
plays by dramatist Lalit Golay. The Highlight of the program was Astha
Rawat 'Chaubandi ma Patuki' .
