1 killed, hundreds of houses damage by storm in Kalimpong
Kalimpong,5th March
The over night storm in whole of Kalimpong have left one human and one animal death along with hundred of
houses in damaged state. The 45 min high velocity wind along with rain
and thunder which started from 7.40 has caused massive damage in mainly
three blocks and Municipal Area. Many tress were uprooted and many roofs
of the houses were blown away by the storm.
Ram bd bhujel(27) of Suruk
died near community hall Suruk when a tree fell upon him. Suruk one of
the remote places in town falls under Kalimpong Block 1. BDO Kalimpong
one B Das has confirmed the death. He said the GP and Disaster
Management officer has visited the spot and provided all necessary help
to the family .
According to preliminary report approximately 31 houses
has been damaged in Kalimpong 1 while Kalimpong 2 or Algada block 13
houses has been fully and 153 have been partially damaged. Meanwhile a
death of a cattle has been reported from this block. Dalapchand High
School building has also been affected in this block. Gorubathan witness
more damage whre about 65 houses has been fully and 341 have been
partially damaged. All the blocks have made it clear that the figure of
destruction will go up has many gp reports are yet to come. Many
municipal area today saw uprooting of tress and damaging animal shed .
Exact figure of destruction in Municipality area has not come. A
disaster relief committee has been formed with DMDC Zulfikar Ali along
with all three BDOs and Sub divison Disastar Management officer to
undertake urgent relief work in view of yesterday destruction informed
