Kalimpong September 25, 2015: 

Lakshmi Gupta (26) a Hat-bazar dweller was drowned and swept few meters away in Relli River yesterday around 4:30 pm.The source said that Gupta along with her friends had gone to the river to take bath in the evening, they tried crossing the river by holding hands making a human chain to reach to the another shore.

They reached, took bath and washed their clothes in the shore and tried crossing the river by creating a human chain again, that’s when Gupta’s feet slept and fell in the water. She was drowned where in the other hand the waves were strong which swept her and her friends could not get hold of her.

Her body was drifted few meters away from the spot and was later found stuck beneath a broken tree which was lying horizontally in the river. 

The post monsoonal rain along with the monsoonal torrential rain has increased the water level in Relli which is 7-8 kilometers (approximately) from haat bazaar.

Her body was recovered with the help of local and later was handed to police yesterday after which the body was taken to Kalimpong hospital where the post mortem was done today and later handed over to her parents.
