The River rafting Rescue group which was functioning since last 20 years in River Tista most crucial accident or any rescue work announced to stop all the rescue from today onwards ( today here is from Thursday) . Rafting in Tista is in a verge to shut down after  the construction of teesta low dam hydel project stage 3 and more dam to be built in future as announce by CM during her Visit in Kalimpong last year.


The Tista River rafting welfare association which has been fighting for Compensation by NHPC last year too had given a ultimatum to NHPC to either call for a talk or to compensate but after days of ultimatum pass the association took the decision to stop all the rescue work but later resume it after two month on request of Chalak Mahasangh  now decided to go to an agitation.

.“We have constantly rescued people, dead bodies and vehicles from the Teesta River which was a personal risk, if we are not provided with any aid or compensation we are bound to stop our rescue work and overlook emergencies From Thursday  ” said Suraj Chettri, a press and publicity of Teesta Rangit River rafting welfare association.

He said we are going to start a non cooperation movement against NHPC. we want help them in any of there work as a part of our movement

He informed that about 300 people have been getting meal through rafting . We shifted to Malli from Tista after construction of TLDP 3 but now new project has been sanctioned by the State at Malli there will be no place for Rafting .

As the announcement of agitiaon is surely going to affect the rescue during mishap at NH 10 as last year too the impact was seen. Chhetri said its the question of Roji Roti and we appeal all not to approach us for rescue work.
