Kalimpong traffic police organized a week long schedule about Road and traffic etiquettes that kicked off today with the objective to neutralize traffic hazards that frequently occurs here. Eminent personalities like Colonel S.R Verma (27 mountain division), T.S Nath (I.C), Zion Lepcha (vice chairman Municipality) were present in the opening ceremony held in main road.
Speaking about the motive of Road safety week, Kalimpong traffic O.C, Praveen Gurung said that the town is congested with cropped footpaths and increasing vehicles, ‘Footpath only in main road is not going to help to broaden the stretches of the town, people will walk on roads and that might lead to an accident, an awareness is therefore essential’ said Gurung.

He also mentioned the possibility of accidents caused by reluctant people using mobile phones while crossing the road, ‘there are many things to look before crossing the road, such things will be taught throughout the week’ he added.

In the same program, speaking on behalf of the people, the vice chairman of Municipality Zion Lepcha said that the travelers along with the drivers and other people should cooperate to improvise the traffic of Kalimpong.

The week long program consists of various competitions like sit and draw along with workshop and marathon respectively all relating to traffic and road safety. However, the Kalimpong O.C also expects the positive outcome of the program. ‘We saw lots of changes when we organized a similar program before; we expect a fruitful result this time as well’ said Gurung.
