GTA starts supply of drinking water in 8 Mile area

Around 51 Families of ward 20 and 19 of Kalimpong
municipality and four villages under Kalimpong panchayat will get drinking
water supply every day after the La Tshering Jhora Drinking Water Supply Scheme
was inaugurated today.
The Scheme which was which launched on September 2015
was finally completed. The Project is First of its kind Project in whole of
GTA.
La Thsering Jhoda is situated at below 2 kms down from 8th Mile. About
three reservoirs have been built which supply water to 4 tanks through pumping.
As of now water in hills was distributed from higher to lower level but in this
project the water is pumped from down to up level.
Kazim Thsering Bhutiya GTA Councillor of the
area today after performing prayer and worship of the Tank situated at 8th Mile
gave water to villagers from the tap.
The village had no PHE water supply till
now. They were depended on some local source and spring and some used to buy
1000 ltr water paying Rs.400. The new inaugurated project has given them a
smile which they said they never dream of smiling Bhutia said.
In first phase
water will be distributed free for 15 days after which the Project will be
looked by a beneficiaries committee. Meanwhile whereas the PHE supplies water
once in 4 days the villager of the area will get water every day.
Meanwhile the
villagers have thanked the councilor and GTA for the project who later herself
thanked the GTA Chief Bimal Gurung for allotting the project in her constituency.
