Five Karate students to participate in SGFI-2017

Four students from Kalimpong and one from Kurseong have been selected for next year SGFI National Games to be held at Madhya Pradesh on first week of January.

The Five were selected after they all won Gold medal at 62nd West Bengal State School Games 2016 which was held at Madhyam Gram High School, North 24 Parganas on 27th and 28th September.

Darjeeling GTA Karate team which participated in the Games under the banner of District Officer of Physical Education and Youth Welfare, GTA Darjeeling and under the Technical banner of Darjeeling Gorkha Karate-Do Association won total 13 medals including 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.

The Student who have won gold medal and has been selected for next year school games from are Rohan Rai of Bright Life Academy, Alok Thapa of Army Public School Kalimpong, Ajanta Mukhia of St.Joshe's Convent and Samrit Lepcha of Girls' H.S School and Angelina Biswakarma of St.Joseph's Girls H.S. School,Kurseong.

 Labanna Kr. Roy of S.U.M.I,Kalimpong  ,Norsang Tamang and  Aswin Rai of St. Roberts School, Darjeeling and Ms. Esha Gurung of Girls' H.S School Kalimpong won the Silver medal  Rikzing Dorjee Sherpa of S.U.M.I,Kalimpong , Chogyal Bhutia of Kumudini Homes,Kalimpong, Subekcha Chettri and Shivani Rai of St.Joshep's Girls High School, Kurseong won bronze respectively .

Sushan Thapa coordinator of GTA Karate Team for School Games expressed happiness and satisfaction over the team performance. He said now the next target is to win the National School Games for which the team will start its preparation soon.
