Administrator to take charge of Kalimpong Municipality on 22rd December

The five year term of Kalimpong Municipality will finish on
22nd December. At present GJM has all 22 ward councilor out of 23 as one the former
chairman of Kalimpong Municipality died on the Chair. On 2011 Morcha won
uncontested but now the scenario is quite different in Kalimpong.
Despite thier defeat in Kalimpong Constituency JAP had a
reason to smile. JAP party lead Morcha in 17 wards out of 23 under Kalimpong Municipality.
The
23 ward had 45 polling booth all together where out of 35 JAP have lead Morcha
and Morcha lead in 10 booth only.
The
main market area ward from 1-14 along with 20, 21 and 22 mandate have gone to
JAP where as 15-19 and 23 mandate went to Morcha . Out of 23,571 votes polled
JAP secured 12065 and Morcha 9295 in addition Nota and three other candidate
got 2211 that put the total anti morcha vote to 14276. JAP got 51% and Morcha
39% whereas the rest got 10% vote .
JAP
party who has recently won the college Union is now eyeing on the coming
Kalimpong Municipaity and Panchayat election.
The
opposition party will raise capitalize on the recent controversies of water
problem , controversy in appointed of Staffs and teacher by Kalimpong Municipality
etc.
GJM
have a strong opposition this time , time and again GJM Supremo Bimal Gurung
have told that his party will sweep all the wards but the recent verdict of
Calcutta High Court has
set the condition that once the trial starts, probably from February, the 23
accused cannot leave the jurisdiction of Calcutta Police without the court's
permission.
The administration will take up the responsibility
of Kalimpong Municipality form 22nd Dec evening informed Zion Lepcha
Vice Chairman of Kalimpong Municipality.
