JAP dharna against Ahluwalia in Delhi

Kalimpong,14th Dec

Members of Jan Andolan Party (JAP) youth wing on Wednesday started a three day dharna in front of Darjeeling MP S.S. Ahluwalia’s house at New Dehli demanding that he should bring forward a bill for Gorkhaland in the Parliament.
“The Morcha is achieving nothing for the Gorkhaland demand since the main way to get Statehood is through the Parliament. The attention of the Parliament must be sought to get the demand. For this, we want to put pressure on our Darjeeling MP as he has done nothing regarding this matter even though his party is in the government,” said JAP president Harka Bahadur Chettri.

Harka Bahadur demanded the Darjeeling to place a bill for the Statehood demand in the Parliament. Around 100 JAP members and activists reached Delhi on Tuesday for the dharna. The dharna lasted for around two hours in front of Ahluwalia’s house at Ashoka Road.

“We staged the dharna before the Darjeeling MP’s house. While he was coming out, he spoke with us and asked us to sit for a meeting. We did not agree. He has again called us for a meeting tomorrow but we have not taken a decision,” said JAP youth president Vishal Rai.

“It is evident that the BJP is not sincere on the Gorkhaland demand as the MP told us that the bill cannot be placed in the Parliament since the consent of the State is required. He also talked vaguely when we asked about the BJP election manifesto where the party had promised to examine and consider the demand of the Gorkhas sympathetically,” said Rai
