State Government appointed an administrator to run the Kalimpong Municipality after the present board 5 year term ended today.

Kalimpong SDO Nirmalaya Gharami took over the charge from Ganga Maya Gurung today around 4 pm . 

The Ruling GJMM was in controlled of the board with no opposition form Dec 2011.

The SDO will now function as the administrator of the Kalimpong Municipality until the civic body elections are held.

Ganga Maya Gurung outgoing chairman said “ We did our level best to work for the development works for the area. She said we conqueror the problem of garbage as we purchased the land and built a bio gas plant at Bhalukhop GP by which about 150 youth have got employment. She said many project are pending which will have to be completed by the new coming board”.

Morcha Board filled the 46 vacany post of different groups in its terms.

SDO Kalimpong Nirmalaya Gharami said “As per government duty I have to execute my duties, they have handed over me all the duties, this is totally a new role for me so have to talk with my senior to help execute my duties.

Civic body election will be held next year but in which month no information have come informed the SDO.

Like MLA Elections all eyes will be now on Kalimpong civic body elections where the ruling party GJM got the setback in MLA elections time when opposition JAP won in 17 wards out of 23.

JAP Student wing too won the College union election by defeating student wing of Morcha last week.

Meanwhile,JAP was supported by TMC during the MLA elections but now the differences between JAP and TMC was seen when CM during September Kalimpong program announced that her government formed the Kalimpong District without anybody request.   This was a U turn after CM last year said that request from Dr Harka Bahadur Chhetri and her party unit came to formed the District of Kalimpong.

The ruling GJM relations with State government is not good.

Kalimpong civic body election is set to catch the eyes of  all unlike MLA election where JAP and GJMM were main two party.
