Kalimpong Hospital to have CT scan, MRI, Digital X-ray machines soon

divisional Hospital will soon launch new services like CT scan, MRI, Digital
X-ray and other modern technologies, as per the information given by the
Superintendent Dr. Sonam Bhutia. Many patients from neighboring places like Sikkim,
Dooars, Nepal, Bhutan, etc., come to Kalimpong for treatment, but due to the
unavailability of CT scan, MRI and Digital X-ray services, the forbearing have
to travel down to Siliguri which adds to the delay in their treatments and precisely
adds to their expenses, thus leading to financial problems as well. The Sub
divisional Hospital had been raising the reminded issue to the concerned
department since years but it’s only this year that their proposal got
approved. CT scan requires 150 kv, MRI requires150kv and Digital X-ray requires
120kv a total of 420kv which the department has approved to provide for
installing these services. Plot (land) selection and design has already occured
and the work will soon begin accordingly. Several patients are treated everyday
and they too expect to get rid of traveling to plains for treatments. Though
the hospital was made for one subdivision but patients come from various places
including Nepal and Bhutan for medical care and the Hospital has to cooperate
with the increased number of patients with fewer facilities attainable. Like
any other hospital, sub-divisional hospital is also facing the problem of lack
of doctors. Even though there are vacancies of 40 doctors, only 26 doctors are
presently working in the hospital. Irrespective to the problems, the hospital
has been able to treat patients with success and this has created faith and
