Hills Won’t Be Much Affected By The Trinamool Congress’s Expansion hints Dr Chettri
MUKESH SHARMA
KALIMPONG, June 12:
The
already fragile relationship between the State Government’s party, Trinamool
Congress and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) became weaker after the High
Power Committee’s report, and recently, few of the GJM members joining hands
with the Trinamool added much brittleness to this relationship. Apart from the
topics of demarcation, elections and High Power Committee report, the talks of
Trinamool trying to set its foot firm in the hills has become another main
topic of discussion. Now all eyes are set on the Trinamool, whether it will be
able to withstand the hills much loved party i.e. the GJM.
Hinting
that the GJM is a strong contender for the Trinamool, the GJM Spokesperson cum Kalimpong
MLA, Dr Harka Bahadur Chettri claimed that the hills won’t be much affected by
the Trinamool Congress’s expansion because some of the newly joined members are
from the opposition parties while some have never been in any of the political
parties before. Commenting on the few of the GJM members joining the Trinamool,
he asserted that politics is based either on principles or on facilities.
Hence, those who did not gain any facilities being with the GJM chose to join
Trinamool. Sarcastically, delivering his best wishes to Rajen Mukhia (one of
the politicians who joined recentlyTrinamool) Dr Chettri said that he hopes
Mukhia makes Trinamool his stable party for he frequently keeps on changing
parties.
Further,
speaking on the much hyped Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) elections he
said that if Trinamool nominates its candidate for the elections then the
decision lies in the hands of the public on whom to choose, whether Trinamool’s
candidate or GJM’s. Elections will be conducted in the GTA areas, but the
selection of 5 nominated candidates can be done only after properly knowing the
demarcated areas, he added.
Likewise,
alleging that the High Power Committee President, Judge (Retd) Shyamal Sen has
not done justice, he added that there were 4 parameters in the High Power
Committee, but more parameters were added later of which Sen was well aware. “The
High Power Committee members themselves are not well informed about the report,
then how can it be considered as a High Power Committee?” questioned the fumed
GJM Spokesperson. Also mentioning that the GJM members who were in the High
Power Committee had seen Justice (Retd) Sen with the State’s Home Secretary
many times, Dr Chettri charged the High Power Committee President of making
decisions in favour of the Government. “Doing what the Government wants is
totally against the rules of the High Power Committee”, he underlined. Notifying
that the Morcha had expected more than 100 mouzas to get recommended, he demanded
the State Government for the verification of the report.
Lastly,
giving the example of the Telengana State supporters filing a case demanding
that the President of the High Power Committee should not be from the State of
Andhra Pradesh, he cautioned that the GJM too shall follow their footsteps if
the forthcoming GJM- Mamata meet is not fruitful.
