HILLS ROAR ON THE ASSAM VIOLENCE AFTERMATH

The Gorkha Janamukti
Morcha (GJM) Spokesperson cum the Kalimpong MLA Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri today
expressed his sadness on the occurrence of violence at Assam which has
triggered turbulence in different parts of the country. The North-easterners
who are been targeted in different parts of the country are the after of the
Assam violence.
The GJM has sent a letter to the Centre
concerning the safety of the NE people and the immediate ending of the
violence. He also informed they he will be meeting the State Home Secretary
today and will talk on the matter. The issue will also be put forward in the
upcoming Legislative Assembly; ultimately
pressurizing the Centre Government said Dr Chettri.
The Communist Party of
India Marxist (CPI (M) leader Tara Sundas today demanded the Centre and the
State Government to take strong action against those who are targeting the
North-Easterners among which lies the Gorkhas too. He has appealed the Union
Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee to interfere immediately into the incidents taking place at Assam and
Bangalore. The recent incidents have been curving path of separatism in the
country. The anti-social elements behind it need to be punished at the
earliest. Sundas has also asked the Government to provide security for NE
people including Gorkhas who are targeted in different parts of the country.
Similarly, Communist
Party Marxist (CPM) leader Samman Phatak has seriously condemned and criticized
the act taking place at Assam, Bangalore and in different parts of the country. The Centre and the State have to provide
immediate solution to the situation he added. He also informed that they will
be soon writing a letter to the Centre on the matter.
CPRM Working President
LM Lama on the other hand said that the GTA Chief Bimal Gurung and the Hill MP
Jaswant Singh has to pressure the Centre on the matter.
Likewise the Kalimpong
Krishak Kalyan Sangathan has also written a letter to the Union Home Minister
Sushil Kumar Shinde through fax highlighting the incidences taking place at
Assam and Bangalore where the Gorkhas has also been targeted. After the
Independence of the country the Gorkhas have been contributing hand in hand in
the process of nation building but still the tag of foreigners has not been
lifted. The Sangathan has requested the Centre Government to protect the
fundamental rights of the Gorkhas in Independent India. They have requested to
unravel the issues arising that of the identity of the Gorkhas at the earliest.
