Sundas fumes over not getting appropriate reply for his RTI
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, August 17:
The CPIM leader, Tara
Sundas had filed an RTI on November 22, 2011against the PWD demanding the
accounts of work and funds under the department during 2007- 2010. Reciprocating
to this the departmental engineer had forwarded a letter to Sundas on November
30 stating that his queries will be answered after all the documents are in
order. But till date there is no reply to the RTI regarding the same.
Likewise, Sundas had
also submitted another letter to the PWD on May 30, 2012 questioning about the
delay, to which the Secretary on June 25 had ordered the engineer to answer the
RTI the soonest. Though the department has now answered the queries, still
Sundas does not seem to be satisfied with it. He claims that though reply has
given an account of the works by the PWD, the contractors name list, names of
the sites that the work took place, when the work was initiated and when did it
get over, etc., however, there is no proper mention of the total amount of
funds utilized during the respective works. The reply also does not state
whether the department had issued a tender for all the works and if they had,
then there is not mention of in which newspapers it was issued, informs the
CPIM leader.
Stressing on the
latter, Sundas alleged that the departmental officials have slyly given the
works under the PWD worth crores, to their relatives. He also forwarded another
complaint letter to the PWD Secretary today complaining about the incomplete
RTI reply.
Sundas, further,
claimed that the CPIM has been voicing against corruption since long. The GTA
chief, Bimal Gurung has been encouraging corruption in the hills, he alleged.
He also cautioned that if his queries are not replied accurately, then he along
with the CPIM representatives shall approach the Commissioner and the Chief
Minister and seek for justice. Lastly, he also appealed the public to stand
against corruption which takes place in the name of benefits for the public.
