Houses for poor being constructed poorly -Sundas
MUKESH SHARMA
Kalimpong, August 30
After the orders by the
State Housing Department on 2010, 1500 houses for the economically weak
families was submitted following detailed survey of the three sub-divisions in
the Hills. This year on April 16, 764 houses out of 1500 were given the global
tender by the District Collectorate office and likewise the construction was on
track. A house is being constructed at the cost of Rs 1.75 lacs and as per the
Government order it has to be 25x25 ft.
Concerning the above CPIM
leader Tara Sundas has alleged that the Department has not been following the
rules. The cost of the houses and the area both has been manipulated said
Sundas. He claimed to be equipped with the detail documents and challenged that
if he is wrong he can be tested in the court of law. Foul politics and goondaism has been always opposed by the
party believed Sundas. He questioned on the construction of the upcoming 765
houses pointing out the constructed houses. Sundas also alleged that the root
cause is because of the global tender that the poor are facing the problems.
Some of the houses in the remotest areas have been constructed within 1 lacs
instead of the full amount. He has appealed the District Administration to look
into the matter seriously. Also in the construction of the houses the local contractors
should get the preferences and being the local they will do the work at its
best said Sundas. The tender should be held as soon as possible the poor should
get the benefits. When the GTA is talking about transparency, the work should
be transparent. The corruption and enjoyment among the officials has to be
stopped said Sundas.
