Kalimpong has its
own style of celebrating Independence Day Every Year. The grand celebration of 66th
Independence Day held in Kalimpong with various cultural programmes and
patriotic fervor. ramesh allay, newly elected gta deputy chief executive
was the chief guest of the event who took the
salute of 23 schools of Kalimpong participating in the parade.
In order to encourage the parading schools,
rewards were also reserved. Showcasing outstanding parade St. Philomena school
stood first and was awarded with cash rupees of 8, 000 followed by Kalimpong
Girls High school in the second place with cash rupees of 6,000 and the third
to Pranami Balika Bidha Mandir school with a cash amount of 4, 000. The
Cultural Department and the ITBCI School presented cultural programmes where
Kalimpong Girls High school presented drill along with the SUMI who presented
band drill on the day.
Addressing the gathering
Alley said that education, especially in the rural places will be given
priority. “It is the priority of the GTA members for the development of the
Hills” said Alley.
The panel for the parade
was the Lieutenant Colonel of the 27th Mountain Division Col MS
Gurung and his five subordinates.
