16th Rashtriya Prani Sampada Vikas Saptaha observed

Kalimpong, November 17:

The West Bengal Cow Husbandry Development Organization along with the Animal Husbandry Development Department under GTA, Darjeeling observed the 16th Rashtriya Prani Sampada Vikas Saptaha 2012 at a district level today. The students of Chandra Maya Basic School staged a rally from Fatka till Pudug carrying placards related to environment. A painting competition for the students were also held. The Line department, Self Help Groups and Animal Shelter also set up stalls for the same.
Milan Dewan from Darjeeling, BR Subba and Pemba Lama from Kalimpong and Sukhraj Bhattrai from Takdha were felicitated for their remarkable work related to farming. The department also gave away Rs 500 to each families who had received high breed/ quality chickens last week from the department. The amount is to be utilized for the construction of a chicken coop. Calf born through artificial insemination, chicken of high breed/ quality, horses, goats, ox, etc. were exhibited during the programme. Vaccination for the animals was also conducted along with free distribution of medicines for the livestock.
The working GTA Sabhasad of Animal Husbandry department, Ramesh Lama was present as the chief guest. In his address he said that the department keeping in mind the development of the farmers is running a project which will benefit all. He appealed the unemployed to venture into farming related projects, which will help them become self employed.
The artists from the cultural department presented a cultural programme.
The district veterinary officer delivered the welcome address, while the deputy director, Dr Y tamang highlighted about the week long observance. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Devendra Pradhan.
