The deplorable condition of the NH31A from the Coronation Bridge Baghpool to Riyang has become problematic for the drivers and the commuters. The residents alongside the Highway have complained
about the dilapidating condition of the Highway which is maintained by Border Road Organization (BRO).
In addition monsoons landslide deteriorate the condition on the other hand widening increases the traffic congestion
on the NH 31A. The 16 kilometer highway from Coronation Bridge (Baghgpool) to Riyang has been a major reason for the prolonged traffic jam. According to Senior GREF official this part of the road is under the project of double laning covering Places like Kalijhora, Baghhpool and Lohapool. “It is a time consuming process but we regret the inconvenience, we are working day and night to complete however the project is being stretched following technical
problems” added the official . Arun Ghatani a local residing in Kalijhora said “two months ago all party political meeting called by the SDO Kalimpong discussed about the same problem, but in vain. The overload
vehicle running on the highway adding to the problem, as now the highway has come under the GTA, the GTA heavyweight councilor should required to look into the matter” demanded Ghatani.
