The clash between the Gorkhaland Rashtriya Nirman Morcha (GRNM) and the Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha (GJYM, youth wing of GJM) refrained successful celebration of the GRNM’s 2nd foundation day at Damber Chowk today.
The GRNM President, Dawa Pakhrin had only started his speech when the GJYM supporters started pelting stones further resulting into a tensed situation. Though Pakhrin said that GRNM has no qualms with the GJM, the Morcha youths did not step back from hostility. Therefore, the Police had to immediately surround Pakhrin for his safety.
“Dawa Pakhrin Go Back” and “Dawa Pakhrin Murdabaad”, were the slogans repeated by the GJYM supporters. They even shouted slogans against the administration.
“Kalimpong should be declared as a district and we will struggle for Gorkhaland”, Pakhrin could deliver only these two lines in his address before the brawl.
Also during the incident, Pakhrin’s vehicle was damaged. However, the Police managed to rescue Pakhrin safely. Along with the Police force, the Kalimpong ASP, Songmit Lepcha and Thana In-charge, Prasad Pradhan was also present.
After the brawl between the Gorkhaland Rashtriya Nirman Morcha (GRNM) and Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha (GJYM) at Damber Chowk today, FIR was filed at the Kalimpong Thana from the both sides.
In one hand, the FIR from the GRNM was against GJYM Spokesperson, Binay Ghising, Nima Tamang and others. The GRNM President also alleged the GJYM supporters of vandalizing his vehicle. While on the other, the GJYM has charged the GRNM supporters of pelting stones at them during an indoor meeting of the Morcha youths at its office today.
The Kalimpong ASP, Songmit Lepcha said that the GRNM had asked permission for conducting the programme at Damber Chowk today. “Despite of the Police training undergoing today, we managed to delivered security as much as we can”, said Lepcha and also informed that 3- 4 Policemen are injured during the incident
