The North Bengal Development Minister, Gautam Deb met with the Lepcha demonstrators who are on a fast unto death since Thursday at Trikon Park and Town Hall premises.

Morcha Central Committee General Secretary, Binay Tamang mentioning about Deb’s visit said that there was no need for him to meet the Lepcha demonstrators and ask them to dissolve the strike as the sub divisional officers could have done it. He alleged the West Bengal Government of scheming against the people of the hills. He clarified that the Morcha or the GTA is never against the Lepcha people.

“We are against the government and its policies not against the formation of the community council”, said Tamang. Lastly he said that all the works of the hills should be looked in by the GTA and not by the WB government as subject transfer has been done.
