Kalimpong receiving only 5 lakhs gallon water instead of 8 lakhs

Kalimpong, April 07:
Similar to other areas, Kalimpong too reels under drinking water crisis during the summer months. Kalimpong gets water supply from waster reservoirs such as Dhoula, Thapchu and Neora whose responsibility is undertaken by the PHE and Neora. Keeping in mind the population Kalimpong needs to be delivered 8 lakh gallons of water per day. However, only 5 lakh gallons of water is being delivered that too after a day’s gap.
The Gorkha Dukh Niwarak Sammelan (GDNS) has expressed its dissatisfaction over the same. RL Trikhatri, the GDNS General Secretary while speaking to the reporters today informed about the above and said that there should have been 8 lakh gallons of water in the tank.
When contacted the PHE Engineer, Anil Chettri regarding the same, he said that 1 lakh gallon of water is being delivered to the Sub Divisional Hospital and another 1 lakh is kept reserved. Thus, due to this all 8 lakh gallons of water cannot be disbursed.
