In order to control the price of essential commodities, particularly vegetables, the district enforcement branch today evaluate and checked the price of vegetable at Kalimpong Hat Bazaar.

The drive has been necessitated by the soaring prices of these commodities and the move has been welcomed by consumers .

A little known district enforcement branch today with the help of kalimpong police conducted massive operation at vegetable market and some of the wholesale shop of vegetable.

Jayanta sharma OC DEB Kalimpong who has been recently posted in kalimpong in this branch and SI Mainik Roy Choudhury led the drive and warned the shops who were selling vegetable at high prices.A totally enstable market was seen during the drive as today , at markets in potatoes were selling for Rs 20 per kg -25 per kg , onions at Rs 60-Rs.80 and ginger at Rs 120-Rs.160 per kg. All the sellers explained about the instability of the  prices.

The shopper were given a warning today to sell the commodities keeping a marginalized profit. They were also ordered to hand a rate board for the consumer.

Achintya.Gupta kalimpong police station in charge said recently a section of traders in the markets here have been deliberately raising the prices of fresh vegetables .He said that in Kalimpong market value of the same goods varies from place to place which in incorrect.'We don't want any one to be cheated' for this consumer have to be beware. added Gupta.'We have started verification of the market prices of essential commodities including the vegetable. The verification process will be concluded after comparing market prices with wholesale and retail prices and then steps according to the law”, said Gupta.

He also warned the shops those found guilty will be dealt with according to the laws.

He informed that a meeting with business men of different organization will be called to check the price hike during upcoming Pujas.

Meanwhile similar raid will be conducted in following weeks informed the OC of DEB.
