Police along with Childline NGO rescued an 11-year-old girl working as domestic help in a house at Dalman Gaon,Bara Bhalukhop area near here today. Acting on a tip-off from the villagers, the team found that the child was tasked to take care of the house owner’s children and barred from going school as well. The
employer was suggested to send the boy back home earlier last month. But on Thursday, Childline was informed of the minor attempting suicide due to alleged ill treatment by the employer, after which she was rescued by the team today. The child’s case has been forwarded to Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Darjeeling. The minor told that she had to do all the household chores, look after the domestic animals and the employer used to abuse her. A FIR has been lodged against the employer under Juvenile Justice Act 2000 & Amendment 2006, Child Labour (Prohibition & regulation) Act 1986 and others and the case is being investigated.
