The project “Moving Towards a Child Labour Free
Society” Kalimpong Sub-division. It will be implemented by two
major NGOs –BSA and Anugyalaya in Kalimpong sub division of Darjeeling District
with major focus on 2 Gram Panchayats i.e Pedong & Ahalay which are major
source/destination of child labour. The project started from 1st of
July 2013 and will end by 31st March 2014.
The project will follow the strategy of Child
centric approach – Full cycle of child Protection (Awareness,
Prevention, Rescue, Rehabilitation, Repatriation, Child Rights, Legal Aspects).
Other invitees are Inspector-in-charge of Kalimpong
& Gorubathan, Block Development Officer of three Kalimpong Sub-division,
Pedong GP Vigilance Committee Monitoring Body, President of Kalimpong Bar
Association, Vice-Chairperson of Kalimpong Municipality, Media, Members of the
Darjeeling District Child Rights NGO Network etc.
Members of the newly formed Vigilance Committee as
well as representatives from the Children’s Club of both Pedong & Ahalay
Gram Panchayat were also invited. A special sharing of experience session has
been added in the programme.
Through this event, partners expect that they will
be able to share the impact and objectives of the project. They will also be
able to share some of the activities & achievements done by the two
partners over the period of four months. It will be a platform to sensitize the
issue on a larger perspective and will also be a step forward to for both the
partners to build a good relationship with the key stakeholders.
"In the programme District Magistrate of Darjeeling expressed the need to work together with civil society organisations & NGOs on various subjects related to child rights. He also promised to come out with awareness material on child rights jointly with BSA and Anugyalaya. Additional Superintendent of Police of Kalimpong Sub-division said he will sensitize all his police personnel on child rights and also proactively looking at issues of child protections. Sr. Subeshna Thapa, Director of BSA expressed the need for more coordinated efforts between GOs and NGOs to make a child friendly and safety network for children in the District of Darjeeling. Sr. Claret Lepcha from BSA & Sudeep Bomzom from Anugyalaya compeer and Mary Samling from BSA gave the vote of thanks."
