Vehilce Plunges Into Teesta after collision with truck, 5 dead

Five persons were feared dead and six others injured when the Bolero
jeep (SK01J-1900)
they were traveling in plunged into the Teesta after head on collision
with a
truck (WB73 C 3208) coming from the opposite direction near Geil Khola
on NH31A under kalimpong police station. The Sikkim bound vehicle which
started around 7.30 a.m in the morning from pakyong met with a accident
at Gelkhola 18 kms from
here, at about 9:30 a.m. today. While injured were rushed to Rambi block primary
health centre,where later they were released after first aid .
The local and truck driver played a important role in the rescuing of the people soon after the incident
The
impact of the collision was so huge that the front of the truck was completely
smashed.
There were 11 persons, including the driver, in the jeep. We have
been able to recover a body and the jeep from the river. Four other persons are
still missing, while six others managed to swim to safety,The driver of the truck Sawan Dukpa (21) has been arrested after the incident.” said a police source
The vehicle was recovered around 4pm with the help of recovery van and rafting member .
The dead body of Ram Krishna Rai, aged about 30, from Pache Samsing village
in Sikkim has been recovered around 4 p.m from the jeep . Manwhile Tek Bahadur Bhujel,the driver of the vehicle
, Deepak Gupta, Ganesh Gupta of a same family and Bilawal Hussein are
among the missing who are supposed to be fear dead and been swept by
river waves.
Out of six injured 5 are in good shape while one Sahimidin
Mia has a fractured in his right hand.

Alam, a construction worker working in Pakyong said that “Our vehicle was in full speed and was trying to
overtake another jeep in front of us suddenly it collided with the truck coming
from the opposite direction after which our car took a tumble and rolled into the
river. but after dipping into the river i broke the rear window and came out safely as i knew swimming .

Mia, who hand got fractured is a construction worker from Cooch Behar, said when the vehicle hit the
water i was probably thrown out, and since he too knew swimming, he managed to come
out safely.
“Five out of four worker managed due to swimming skill came of safely but Bilwal Hussein from the same team later got missing as his body' said saheed alam(17)of Islampur .The whole team has been working in a construction site at Pakyong were travelling
back to their homes .
