The Kalimpong Sub division Administration has taken a decision to fully ban the use of Plastic Carry Bags from the town.The decision was taken today after a meeting on solid waste management was held between the representative and the Kalimpong Sub divisional Officer K.Radika.Ayyer .

"A one week public announcement will be done from tomorrow to inform the people and commercial establishment know about the ban on plastics. After that fine of Rs.1000 will be imposed to those establishment which violates the ban " said the SDO. Meanwhile the meeting too discuss the fees which kalimpong municipality imposed on commercial establishment for solid waste management .The fees is RS.300 per annum which is likely to be raised after the board meeting of Kalimpong Municipality soon.

Kalimpong town has earlier witnessed Full ban on carrying plastic but in due time due to ineffective administrative law and checking measure kalimpong started becoming a Den of Solid Waste. In addition to the misery, Kalimpong faced a stiff problem of a permanent Dumping Ground.

After the formation of New Municipality the Municipal board purchased land for Dumping in Dalman Goan but due to natural calamities the road to Dumping was cut off in Monsoon but now after repairing the Municipality is dumping the waste in the same place.The meeting also decided that the 3 municipality Trucks which was doing 2 shifts to Carry waste will now carry waste three times a day informed K.Radika Aiyer..She added that house hold collection of waste will too start in coming days.
