Addressing the Press The Leader told that The Left Regime Government has started the issue but the change caused a pause . Later the issue was raised in the GTA agreement between the Centre, state government and GJM in 2011.
Laying Forward some of the reason for his demand he said that Kurseong is getting an engineering college and Darjeeling a central university.
"Kalimpong is known for its quality education which attracts many children from in and outside our Country. It happens to the source of income in our area too, if a Sainik School be established in Kalimpong then it will definitely help kalimpong to be a education hub" added Sundas.
Sainik schools are set up by the MoD only if the state governments commit to provide land and other infrastructure. The Defence ministry then provides three service officers, a physical instructor and NCC staff and takes care of overall supervision. The MoD also provides concessions to students on the basis of merit. The remaining expenditure is borne by the state governments.
There are a total of 24 Sainik schools across the country. States like Bihar, Karnataka and Haryana have two Sainik schools each. Orissa, which already has one, has asked for a second.
