First ever Tribal Fair held at kalimpong

A one day Tribal artisan Fair was conducted today at Lepcha Youth Hostel.
The fair the first of its kind in the hills was conducted bt TRIFED in Association with Myanglyang Lepcha Development Board.

The day say the participation of different Tribal community artisan and their work including Lepcha, Subba,Sherpa , Emi Bhutia,Tamang.All the tribal artisan displayed their artistic and handicraft work which attracted many today.
A total of 32 artisan participated in the fair which witness different tribal dance .
K.S.Gullaiya executive director of TRIFED presided as the Chief Guest who said that the main aim of the fair is to see the unique lifestyle of tribal s, many interesting practices and indigenous habits. At the same time tribals get exposure to the city life and a platform to market their products.
He added that the best product will be chosen and taken to Delhi after which it would be send to our 35 Tribal shop located all over the country.
Meanwhile, SDO K.Radhika.Aiyar said that we have spotted tow places to open a Tribal shop here.The shop will help to showcase and market the art and craft items produced by the tribal people and thus demonstrate the magical mystique of tribal Hills espousing tribal cause.
M.D.Mishra regional director of TRIFED expressed happiness over the item kept today in the fair and added the the best products were from the EMI Bhutia Association.Out of 32 we have chosen 6 artisan he added.

LS Tamsang, President of MLDB along with representative of other community were present on the opening ceremony
