The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief Bimal Gurung today inaugurated the "Krishi Mela 2014" at Relli in kalimpong. The Mela which kick started from today will continue till January 16. Gurung was also accompanied by the GTA deputy Chaiman Dr. Lopsang Lama ,  a leading Columnist associated with The Indian Express, Krishi mela president Bijay Sundas and many sabhasad of the GTA .

‘The main aim of the Mela is to aware the farmers on agriculture as it is the main source of livelihood in the Hills’ said Gurung addressing the gathering. He said that the GTA not only gives preference to tourism, education but in almost every needs of the society. More emphasis will be given to Relli in the field of agriculture he said.

Gurung also assured that many developmental works have been on full swing in the field of tourism sector and same will be followed in terms of agriculture. He led emphasis on the production of organic products.

Gurung appealed one and all to believe on hard work rather to depend in the government. He also informed about the establishment of the 300 beded hospital at Kalimpong and 15 bedded Hospital at Borbot along with a Rope way From Delo to kalimpong and Relli  .

Gurung who reached kalimpong after taking oath of the GTA chairman said that the GTA has to spend Rs 200 crore within the time frame of March .He added preparations are on for implementing them within March of this year.

‘If there occur any Interferencein the Development Project we will stop it ’  said Gurung.     

   

The 4 day long Krishi Mela is being organized in collaboration of the GTA and the Government of West Bengal. Various departments linked with agriculture, Health Self Help Groups (SHGs) and organizations have displayed vegetables, fruits, traditional clothes, utensils, hand crafts, etc.

The day witness distribution of Old age pension, Felicitation of Farmer and The launching of The Departmental Calender of Cultural and Information Department by the GTA chief .

The evening lighted up with various cultural programmes put up by the Cultural Department. Rural Sports will also commence from January 14, 2014.
