In order to keep a check on the traffic rule breakers and rash drivers the Kalimpong Traffic Police was on a checking spree at today. The Police at many Check Post checked whether the drivers are using seat belts, over load vehicles, pollution, insurance, token tax, etc. Cases has been registered against many four wheelers for breaking traffic rules. The traffic hassles in the town has been fixed upto some extent after the department started registering cases for irregular parking. The OC, Praveen Gurung who himseff checked the vehicles today also appealed the drivers not to break traffic rules.The two wheeler drivers have been directed to wear helmets while driving.

Gurung today informed that the department had set rules that between 7:30-9 in the morning (school opening hours) and 2-4 in the afternoon (school closing hours) the heavy load vehicles cannot ferry through the road. However, many vehicles were seen breaking the rule, which now have cases registered against them. Apart from these, the department is also strict over those vehicles and drivers who make double lines while parking on the main road.

The campaign has been launched under the leadership of Traffic OC, Praveen Gurung, after many complaints were received from the public about traffic hassles and accidents. Gurung has urged the NGOs, Municipality, other departments and the general public to cooperate with them as it is of much importance to solve the traffic issues of the town.

He further informed that the department has got many complained about the bike rider after which now the department will have a close watch specially on those bikers.

He also warned those people who use the road to unload building materials

Lastly, Gurung has appealed all the drivers to keep a copy of their driving license and other important vehicle document along with them while driving.

. He said that the if anyone is found using road for such purpose will be penalised.
