Statehood: It's Now or Never, says Harka
D.K.Waiba
Kalimpong, May 20:
Morcha spokesperson and Kalimpong MLA Harka Bahadur Chettri Tuesday expressed that there is a golden opportunity for the Gorkhas to attain Gorkhaland given that BJP is in absolute majority at the centre. The GJM had supported the BJP candidate S.S. Ahluwalia who won by a thumping margin defeating TMC’s Bhaichung Bhutia.
“If not now, it cannot be achieved forever,” said Chettri on the sidelines of his party joining the NDA in New Delhi on Tuesday. “There is a golden opportunity for us to achieve what we want. If the statehood is not achieved even this time, I would say that the country is apartheid against us,” he told a press conference in Kalimpong.
The MLA citing that the BJP has already created three new states in the country during their erstwhile regime, feels that his party has wrested ample hopes for the creation of Gorkhaland. “We are hoping for the best to come and the Morcha is covertly sincerely to the demand and achieving it. If the central government this time does not deliver its promises, then no government in the country is ready to listen to the Gorkhas can be understood. Everything goes in favour of the Gorkhas this time which is why we are hopeful,” he added. The BJP so far has not promised Gorkhaland but it undisputed leader Narendra Modi during an election rally in Siliguri has promised to fulfill the Gorkha ‘dreams’
