Lok Adalat realizes Rs 4, 01,581

The Lok Adalat realized Rs 4, 01,581 out of the pending Rs 7, 51,487 in the presence of Utpal Mishra, Additional District Judge, D.N Panday Senior Advocate, Kalimpong Bar Association and Roma Moktan, Teacher-in- charge of Pranimi Balika Vidhya Mandir on Saturday.

Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee organizes Lok-Adalat every once in a while in Kalimpong Court Building,(Session Court). The last Adalat was held on April 11 which settled 5 old cases. The committee was able to settle Rs 38,000 out of Rs 123,000 then. This time the Adalat held over the day settled 17 cases out of 80 in which 20 litigants turned up. Out of 25 cases referred by the Central Bank of India, 3 were settled for Rs 1,42,00 and Rs 42,000 was realized.

Similarly, 4 cases out of 24 of Union Bank of India was settled amounting to Rs 1,05,500 r and Rs 51,000. All 10 cases of West Bengal State Co-Op, Agricultural and Development bank Ltd was settled amounting to Rs 5,03,987 where Rs 3,08,581 was realized. However, the per-litigation case referred by Janta Urban Co-Operative Credit Society couldn’t be settled although they had 20 odd cases, it was known that only one litigant turned up from this bank. The Kalimpong branch banks could settle the total of Rs 7,51,487 and collect 4,01,581.

The oldest case solved on this Lok Adalat was the piggery loan taken by Topgay Lepcha on 11May 1996 whose rate of interest was 12% per annum. He had taken the loan amounting 15,000 which was repayable within 5 years, his amount hiked to 33,281 by 2015 which was settled to 21,000 rupees and paid the full amount, informed Swarnima Chettri,the secretary of Sub-divisional legal services committee
