The working journalists of Kalimpong, along with the members of Kalimpong press club here, led by the President and the Vice President (of press club) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee through SDO demanding for a strong action from the administration as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Rudra Karki, the vice president of the club reacting on the abduction of the journalist said, ‘A journalist is a person who acts as a medium of communication and bridges the gap between the administration and the public, they are the ones who are associated with constitution and they write things which ordinary people cannot write, we can’t let unlawful situations come up in the lives of journalists anymore.’

Later, Arun Kumar Rasaily, the president of the club also added the statement reminding that this incident is not the first one, ‘we still remember the cases of Jagendra Singh-a journalist, who was burnt alive in Uttar Pradesh on 1st June, Akshay Singh’s mysterious death on 4th July and now disappearance of Chayan Sarkar’ said Rasaily adding that something regarding the safety of a journalist should be done immediately.

However, Radhika Aiyer, the SDO was not available in the office and the memorandum was handed over to Zulfkar Ali, the Deputy Magistrate Deputy Collector of SDO Office who later said that the matter will be put in SDO’s knowledge soon.
